Noted For: U.S. domestic terrorist; mailed or delivered 16 homemade bombs between 1978 and 1995 that killed 3 people and injured 23. His first bombs were sent mainly to universities and an airline, causing the FBI to dub him the university and airline bomber, or Unabomber. His anti-technology, environmentalist, pro-anarchy manifesto was published in the Washington Post (1995). A famous police sketch of him wearing a hood and sunglasses and bearing little actual resemblance to him was published. Pleaded guilty to murder and transporting bombs; sentenced to 8 consecutive life sentences (1998).
