Noted For: pitcher, member of the San Francisco Giants (1962-71), Cleveland Indians (1972-75), Texas Rangers (1975-77, 80), and 6 other teams (1978-83). 5-time All-Star (1966, 70, 72, 74, 79); NL and AL Cy Young award winner; elected to the MLB Hall of Fame (1991). Was notorious for throwing "greaseballs" - baseballs with foreign substances illicitly applied to them.
Quotation: "I'd always have grease in at least two places, in case the umpires would ask me to wipe one off. I never wanted to be caught out there with anything though; it wouldn't be professional."
